Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact erik@olehamusic.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Oléha is designed primarily as event-supportive, instrumental-forward soundtracking rather than a traditional, spotlight-driven concert act. Our music enhances atmosphere, supports conversation, and adapts in real time to our audience's Aloha.

In some settings — such as restaurants, retail environments, or programmed stages where Oléha is the sole act — the performance may be more forward-facing, including select vocal covers, while still maintaining an ambient, non-intrusive presence. Depending on the event and format, we can step forward when appropriate while remaining aligned with the purpose and flow of the gathering.

Live looping is when a musician records short musical phrases — such as rhythms, chords, or melodies — and has them instantly loop in real time while additional layers are built on top. This allows a single performer to create the depth of a full band, live, as the music unfolds.

Oléha’s performances are created entirely this way, in the moment. We do not use pre-recorded backing tracks. Everything you hear is performed live and shaped in real time, allowing our music to adapt organically to the energy, flow, and atmosphere of your event.

Oléha is available in solo, duo, and trio formats, all built around the same soundtracking-first approach.

  • Solo is the most commonly requested format for retail, dining, private events, and corporate mixers, offering a warm, conversation-friendly presence that scales well across long engagements.
  • Duo is frequently selected for conventions, larger corporate events, and extended programs, adding musical interplay to support dynamic environments.
  • Trio performances are typically selected for outdoor programs, high-profile gatherings, and large-format events, delivering our most expansive and immersive sound experience.

Volume is carefully controlled and adjusted in real time to suit the space, audience, and purpose of the event. Oléha is experienced in performing within strict venue, restaurant, and municipal sound guidelines, and the music is designed to support conversation rather than compete with it.

Our system is capable of higher output when appropriate for outdoor or large format events, but volume is always set intentionally and can be capped to specific decibel levels upon request to meet venue or city requirements. We coordinate closely with event management to ensure all established volume guidelines are followed.

Oléha is fully self-contained and provides professional sound reinforcement scaled to the selected performance format. Our system delivers clean, balanced audio designed to support conversation while still covering open or outdoor spaces when needed.

When power is available, we require a standard grounded 120V outlet. Performances can also be fully battery powered for up to 6 hours for locations without access to power. Compact and dynamic LED stage lighting is available to enhance ambiance when appropriate.

Performance requirements are minimal and flexible.

Typical space needs are approximately 6×4 ft for solo, 10×6 ft for duo, and 12×8 ft for trio performances.

For outdoor events, shade is strongly preferred to protect equipment and maintain performance quality. When needed, we can provide a compact EZ-Up style canopy. Setup typically takes 60 minutes depending on format and site conditions. Food and refreshments are appreciated during longer engagements but are not required.

Oléha’s appearance is tailored to the tone and formality of each event. We aim to look polished, intentional, and aligned with the environment.

For corporate, convention, and formal settings, attire is typically smart-casual to formal (e.g., jackets, collared shirts, or coordinated performance wear). For outdoor, hospitality, and relaxed environments, styling remains refined and professional while fitting the setting.

Attire can be aligned with dress codes, brand guidelines, or event themes when requested.

Performance length is flexible and tailored to each event’s schedule and flow.

Our most commonly requested formats are 2–3 hour sets for dining, retail, and private events, where the music supports atmosphere without listener fatigue. Convention and corporate programs regularly request 4–6 hour engagements, and solo and duo formats have been performed across multi-day trade show schedules while maintaining consistency and energy.

Set length, breaks, and pacing are always coordinated in advance to align with venue guidelines and programming needs.

Music is shaped in real time based on our audience's Aloha, the flow of the event, and the desired atmosphere.

Requests can be accommodated when they align with the overall tone and purpose of the setting. The priority is maintaining a cohesive, supportive soundscape rather than abrupt shifts in style or mood.

For select events, musical direction, themes, or stylistic preferences can also be discussed in advance to align with branding, programming goals, or specific moments.

Oléha is based in Orange County, California and regularly performs throughout Southern California. Nationwide and destination bookings are available depending on event scope, timing, and logistics.

Pricing varies based on performance format, duration, location, and technical needs. Quotes are tailored to each event.

Local dining, retail, and private events are typically structured differently than convention, corporate, or multi-day programs, which may involve additional production or logistics.

Having a general budget range in mind is always helpful and allows us to recommend the most appropriate format and setup. We encourage inquiries so we can provide a transparent quote aligned with your event.

Booking begins with an inquiry to confirm availability, event details, and the appropriate performance format. Once terms are aligned, the date is reserved through written confirmation and a deposit.

In the unlikely event that Oléha must cancel for any reason, any deposit paid is fully refunded, typically within 1–2 business days.

Who is Oléha?

Oléha is led by Erik S. Chan, a live performer and experience-focused artist whose music is shaped by a non-traditional creative path. His approach draws from a background in product strategy and Kintsugi — the Japanese art of honoring imperfection as part of a greater whole — an idea that carries through Oléha’s live soundtracking philosophy.

Erik’s music is deeply inspired by his relationship with Cora’s Crafts, where close exposure to families facing serious pediatric illness has shaped how he designs for presence, escape, and emotional relief. Witnessing their struggles and loss has influenced the way Oléha’s music is crafted — with warmth, gentleness, moments of melancholy to honor those who have been lost, and moments of happiness to lift the spirit — creating space for people to step away from stress, worry, or circumstance.

This is the Aloha spirit behind every Oléha performance, shaping music that feels like a vacation for the soul, unfolding in real time to soundtrack life’s moments.

For select performances, Oléha's music is enhanced by a small circle of trusted collaborators — experienced musicians with a passion for instrumental storytelling and the talent to add depth through their work across other genres.

Oléha artists are selected for their ability to listen first, read the flow of each other’s music, and adapt in real time. Each is skilled in contributing their own unique style to create a seamless Vacation Music for the Soul live soundtracking experience.
